THEM: STiVO is an unfiltered and dry-hopped Keller style pilsner brewed with our friends at Firestone Walker. Originally conceived in 2016 as a mashup of Firestone Walker’s Pivo Pils with our STS Pils, STiVO is a happily arranged marriage of both recipes, which were already quite similar except for the hop bill. Poppy discovers something absolutely fascinating about humans:
their phones.
She notices humans constantly staring at these small glowing rectangles. Because people seem so mesmerized by them, she assumes they must be extraordinarily valuable—or perhaps even delicious.
She collects discarded phones and studies them, wondering why humans manufacture so many objects that eventually become trash.
That makes Poppy one of the cleverest pieces in the exhibit because she’s essentially asking us:

At first glance, Thomas Dambo’s giant trolls at the South Coast Botanic Garden are just incredibly cool works of art. But spend a little time with them and you realize something: every troll has a story, and every troll has a message.
So I thought it would be fun to dig a little deeper into each one.
First up… TAKS — The Fearless Leader.
Taks is the troll who started the whole adventure. After wandering into the human world, he became fascinated by us—especially by all the things we chase, collect and consider “valuable.” He returned home and convinced his 11 siblings that humans deserved a closer look.
And that’s where the brilliant twist begins…
We think we’re visiting the garden to study the trolls.
The trolls are actually here to study US.

A staple of Central Coastal California road tripping shut down in 2024, and now its well-known building in the Santa Ynez Valley will be torn down.
What is Pea Soup Andersen’s?
The restaurant first opened in 1924 by husband and wife Anton and Juliette Andersen as Andersen’s Electric Cafe. The restaurant was sold in 1960 by Andersen’s son, Robert, to his friend Vince Evans.
Evans and his family died in a plane crash near the Santa Ynez Valley airport in 1980. Following their death the restaurant had several ownership changes before being purchased by Milt Guggia Enterprises, according to Noozhawk.
Pea Soup Andersen’s restaurant closed for redevelopment in 2024 and was ultimately sold by Milt Guggia Enterprises. The company still owns and operates the Santa Nella location along with other restaurants.
